"Moritzburg Palace"

The dense forests with an abundance of game in the middle of a lovely pond landscape were perfect for the hunting activities of the court. Situated on an artificial island Moritzburg Palace marks the center of these historical hunting grounds – it is one of baroque’s  most beautiful treasures.

Moritzburg is only a short drive away from Dresden.

You will have a guided tour through the lavish park around the palace in the picturesque setting of the Moritzburg pond landscape. You will hear exciting and funny stories about the hunting activities of the court, the sumptuous dinners and other good and bad habits of baroque times. Moritzburg is also the filming location for the popular Christmas movie “Three wishes for Cinderella”, and maybe you’ll find the famous lost shoe here. In 2019 Moritzburg Palace was also a major shooting location for the film “Charlie’s Angels”.

The exhibition in the palace boasts rare and priceless leather tapestry, vast quantities of hunting trophies, escpecially rare antlers from all over the world.

The royal bedchamber is absolutely unique: The bed and the tapestries are made of colored bird’s feathers!. The first catholic masses on Saxon soil were held in the baroque chapel.

A short walk brings us to the cosy summer residence, called the Pheasant Palais (Fasanenschlösschen). Right beside this little architectural jewel the next surprise is waiting: There is a lighthouse with a pier – almost like being at the seaside. This place was built as a model of the Dardanelles and was used for playing naval battles for entertainment.

3 Hour trip – Guide’s Fee 185,- Euro
plus admission to the guided tour in the exhibition (on request)

Upon request we can rent a bus, van or taxi for you. (Prices differ according to availability and group/vehicle size)

Excursion for indiviual guests or small groups. No bus is needed for this tour.

From Dresden we go by train to Radebeul Station – but then we will change to the historic narrow gauge steam railway, locally nicknamed the Lößnitzdackel (Lößnitz Dachshund). A pleasure almost forgotten in our modern age of transport – but simply unforgettable. A moment of special excitement is when the train crosses the water … and you won’t get wet.

A short walk leads us to Moritzburg Palace, the baroque hunting lodge. Here you will feel like being in a fairy tale yourself, because Moritzburg is also the filming location for the popular Christmas movie “Three wishes for Cinderella”. Maybe you’ll find Cinderella’s famous lost shoe here. In 2019 Moritzburg palace was also a major shooting location for the film “Charlie’s Angels”.

The tragic fate of Countess Cosel, her rise to the height of power and her fall to the wretched existence as a prisoner of her former lover, is the main topic of this interesting, emotional and entertaining trip.

Anna Constantia von Cosel is known to this day as the most famous mistress of Augustus the Strong, Duke of Saxony and King of Poland. The last 49 years of her life however she spent in solitude, imprisoned in the mighty tower of Castle Stolpen.
